Extra credit: Use Google Maps to find public Spaces_WUYI Square park - GENG JIAYI and CHENXINYI

We chose a large park in the Wuyi Square business district of Changsha, China. This is a park that is square in physical space. The main function is to serve this huge business circle.I think the good aspect of this public space design is the geographical location. Wuyi Square is located in the central area of the city with convenient transportation. The dense layout of six subway stops makes the square easy to reach and convenient for citizens and tourists. Second is the spatial planning, the park covers a large area, providing enough space for people to relax and gather. It is designed with wide walking paths and open lawns so that people can walk freely. The park has a large number of green plants and landscape decorations, including flower beds, trees, and fountains, to increase the beauty and amenities of the square. These green elements not only provide visual enjoyment but also help to improve air quality and provide a comfortable environment for people. Around the square,...

public space - Huang yixiao

Our public space of choice is the park. This place is also where our group assignment 2 will be observed for two weeks.   As our studying, whether a good public space can be determined requires people to have a reason to come to this space and use this space. Then there’s the comfort and the image that draws people in.   In fact, I  live behind this park, and I will definitely pass this park on the way to school every day. I observed that at 8:20 every morning, the cleaning staff were already cleaning the sanitation of the entire park. Because of the large space, residents living nearby will come here to walk their dogs.  And this park not only has a kid's play slide but there are also adults who can use the fitness equipment.  So we think this is a great space.  however, there are also disadvantages which that there is no administrator, and I may not have noticed it.

I thought the book "Social Life in Small Urban Spaces" was a very interesting book and I watched the documentary film. It explores the relationship between social life and urban space by studying the space of small cities, and provides valuable ideas for understanding urban social life. White's rigorous and in-depth way of thinking is worth learning from. He explores the relationship between urban social life and spatial structure by making many interesting points, such as the fact that social life in cities is inseparable from spatial structure, and that the structure of urban space determines the way social groups interact. He also delves into the phenomenon of social life in small cities through a large number of case studies to better understand the relationship between space and society. These perspectives and case studies have given me a deep understanding of the diversity and complexity of urban social life. Before conceiving a building one should understand the mu...

Summarize : The book grew out of a study by Mr. White called the Street Life Project, in which Mr. White and his fellow researchers, armed with clipboards, cameras and tripods, climbed rooftops, wandered New York's plazas, sat along streets, and observed the city's public Spaces. After 10 years of observation, White put together a book of his findings. The conclusions of this book are drawn from direct observation. "Direct observation", which is now almost a "lost" skill, if you do not do big data, quantitative analysis, as if there is no research, is not "scientific". But in fact, a lot of common sense is acquired without the sacrifice of dragon slaying. It is often assumed that children play in the streets because there is no place to play. But is it possible that many children play in the streets precisely because they like them? To figure this out, you don't need to resort to complex analysis. Just observe whether children are having fun ...

The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces is a book by William H. White on the design of urban public spaces, based on the observations of the Street Life Project research team he organized in 1970, which observed 16 squares, three small parks and many street corners in New York City. How do you create a humane small urban space? Their observations revealed what kind of spaces people like to sit in, to talk in, to stay in. What kind of spaces are suitable for people to stay. Life in the Square The first part of the study looked at the square. They used observation and interviews to find out who was using the squares, where they came from, where they worked, how often they came here, what their impressions of the squares were and what they did in them. They found that most of the people using the squares were young people working in nearby buildings and that in some of the better-used squares there were more pairs of people. Depending on the season and the climate, the number of people ...

Some are walking alone ,others are playing in groups. The area of the park is not very large, but it is located in the mountains. It is decorated with romantic, artistic and camping feeling, creating a fusion scene of "park + business district + art + theater". There is also a "One Foot Cafe" in the sunroom, which feels perfect for anyone who wants to relax and go on an outing in the park. The disadvantages are that it is too expensive, too many people and the distance is a little far. China’s slow flash park

Our group's park has stray cats, flower beds and some trees, and there are fitness equipment to provide exercise services and so on.  We also have playground equipment for children to play, and chairs to rest and walk.  There is also a fountain pool for viewing and you can throw coins into it to make a wish.  There is also a sink for children to wash their hands and a toilet.  There is a convenience store outside the park, which is very convenient.

PARK

Image
Design Concept: City Park This is an open urban park without fences and accessible from all directions. There is a fountain-like artificial lake in the middle of the park, and there are appropriate amount of benches and micro-landscapes around the lake. There are also steps on the fountain for people to play around in the water. On the opposite side of the lake is the toilet (separate use for men, women, and the disabled), and there is a baby room next to it. Then there is a dessert coffee shop on the west side of the lake for people to enjoy. LI YUNLUN HAO JINGYU

I think designing a friendly park involves creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for people of all ages and backgrounds. Here are some of my considerations and ideas when designing a friendly park. The first is green space, including plenty of green space with trees, lawns, and flowers. Because greenery provides a calm and inviting atmosphere, it encourages people to relax and connect with nature. Second is seating, which offers a variety of seating options to encourage socializing, relaxation, and community involvement. There are also safety measures, prioritizing safety through proper lighting, clear signs, and well-maintained paths. Finally, regarding the water element, I think the park needs to design a stream so that the water element provides a refreshing experience and can attract visitors, especially in the warmer months. These are my personal ideas for creating a park that promotes inclusion, community involvement, and a positive outdoor experience for everyone.

"The Sting" tells the story of 1936, in Joliet, near Chicago, three crooks set a trap to cheat a passer-by out of a staggering amount of money. The head of the fraud ring, Russa, had a young goon named Hooker. Russa treated him like a son and recommended him to his friend Kondolph in Chicago.A few days later, Roza was assassinated by a gang. Hooker vows to avenge him and goes to Chicago to seek Kondolph's help. Kondolph and Hook went about trying to find out about Ronagon, the leader of the underworld, and exploited his weakness for playing cards and racing horses. I analyzed several elements of Goffman based on the film Team:There were two men who were trying to cheat a pair of shoes, and they ended up cheating them out of $5,000. These two men can be seen as a team, sharing information and trusting each other. The shill:Luther pretended to be a member of the audience, saying that the money was his wife's medical bills, but was actually a member of the performance tea...

Extra credit:Theory Analysis of The Pleasantville movie

Image
This is a moving movie that shuttles between black and white and color. The ancient and modern are presented to the audience at the same time. The retro colors and the magnificent world are as gorgeous as angels and demons spreading their wings at the same time. Because of the contrast, the audience is given the right to choose, and the magical atmosphere is combined. Frames of images full of strong color contrast strike, this is the most beautiful lullaby sung by adults to children, and this is the most incredible dream come true. According to Goffman's theory of dramatization, the following is an analysis of the movie "Pleasantville": Stage "foreground" and "backstage": In this society, people's behavior is limited to the rules and constraints of the "frontstage". They can only do things that are recognized and accepted by society, and they dare not try anything new or unusual behavior. This way of behaving is considered a conservat...

"The Liar" is a feature film released by MCA Universal Family Entertainment in the United States on December 25, 1973. The film tells the story of Hooker, the younger brother of the fraud group, and his friend Condolph, who use the scam to avenge boss Rusa. The film won seven awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay at the 46th Academy Awards. Characters: The main characters in the film include the thief Hook (played by Robert Redford) and his partner Condolph (played by Paul Newman). Lonergan, the leader of the underworld organization, likes to play cards and loves cheating and revenge, all of which left a deep impression on the audience. These weaknesses are also an important factor in Henry's deception, as well as the greedy fat policeman, etc. The interactions between these characters generate the conflict and development of the plot. The setting: The film is set in 1930s Chicago. In various streets and alleys, as well as some entertainment ve...

Whyte is a seminal work that explores the ways in which people interact with and use public spaces in urban areas. I have read the entire book and find it to be an engaging and insightful exploration of the social dynamics of public spaces. Whyte's research is based on extensive observation of people's behavior in a variety of public spaces, such as plazas, parks, and sidewalks. He identifies key features that make these spaces attractive and useful to people, such as: 1. The importance of seating: Whyt...

After watching the movie, I think it contains 6 elements of Erving Goffman's theory of dramaturgy. 1) Front stage and backstage: In the movie, the characters live in a black-and-white sitcom world called Pleasantville, where everything is orderly and predictable. However, when the two main characters, David and Jennifer, are transported to this world, they begin to disrupt the established order by introducing new ideas and behaviors. They must navigate between the "front stage" of Pleasantville, where they must conform to the strict social norms of the sitcom, and the "backstage" of their own lives, where they can express their true selves. 2) Impression management: The characters in Pleasantville engage in impression management to maintain a perfect, harmonious community image. They follow strict rules of behavior and dress, and any deviation from these norms is seen as a threat to the established order. 3) Face-to-face interaction: The characters in Pleasantv...

The Sting is a classic American film that was released in 1973. Directed by George Roy Hill and starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, the film tells the story of two con artists who team up to pull off a complicated and intricate long con. The movie is not only a thrilling and entertaining ride, but it also contains several elements of Erving Goffman's theory of dramaturgy. 1) Front stage and back stage: Throughout the movie, the characters perform different roles in different contexts, and they carefully craft their behavior and appearance to create the desired impression on others. For example, when Johnny Hooker is pretending to be a wealthy businessman in order to gain the trust of Doyle Lonnegan, he puts on a suit and speaks in a more refined manner. However, he can let his guard down and be himself when he is with his fellow con artists in their "backstage" meetings. 2) Impression management: The characters in the movie engage in impression management in order t...

In 1999, Procter & Gamble created a new brand swiffering. In the promotion plan of the main product electrostatic precipitating gauze, Procter & Gamble stood on the standpoint of modern housewives and showed their understanding and support. That generated $1 billion in sales for it. Behind the marketing plan, Procter & Gamble conducted a detailed survey on the domestic chores of American women and found that no matter how high a position most women hold in the workplace, family is still an important emotional position for them, and most women are still proud of cleaning their homes . Women's demands are not not to do housework, but to do housework more easily. Telling girls lies in the real insight into what women keep and what they abandon in the development of the times. Communicate to men, you can help each other and maintain a good family together! Procter & Gamble announced to the public: We are not helping women solve problems, but helping their families solv...
