Extra credit: The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces - Whyte ——LI YULUN

I thought the book "Social Life in Small Urban Spaces" was a very interesting book and I watched the documentary film. It explores the relationship between social life and urban space by studying the space of small cities, and provides valuable ideas for understanding urban social life. White's rigorous and in-depth way of thinking is worth learning from. He explores the relationship between urban social life and spatial structure by making many interesting points, such as the fact that social life in cities is inseparable from spatial structure, and that the structure of urban space determines the way social groups interact. He also delves into the phenomenon of social life in small cities through a large number of case studies to better understand the relationship between space and society. These perspectives and case studies have given me a deep understanding of the diversity and complexity of urban social life. Before conceiving a building one should understand the mu...

Extra credit:Theory Analysis of The Pleasantville movie

Image
This is a moving movie that shuttles between black and white and color. The ancient and modern are presented to the audience at the same time. The retro colors and the magnificent world are as gorgeous as angels and demons spreading their wings at the same time. Because of the contrast, the audience is given the right to choose, and the magical atmosphere is combined. Frames of images full of strong color contrast strike, this is the most beautiful lullaby sung by adults to children, and this is the most incredible dream come true. According to Goffman's theory of dramatization, the following is an analysis of the movie "Pleasantville": Stage "foreground" and "backstage": In this society, people's behavior is limited to the rules and constraints of the "frontstage". They can only do things that are recognized and accepted by society, and they dare not try anything new or unusual behavior. This way of behaving is considered a conservat...

Extra credit:Theory Analysis of Casablanca movie

Image
Goffman's dramamimesis is the study of daily life with the help of the analogy of drama. Dramatic theory is a theory developed from symbolic interaction theory, which has its own characteristics and explains the interaction between people in daily life. In "Casablanca", we can see the following mimetic elements: Character performance: The characters in the movie all have their own unique performance styles, which are impression management, such as Rick's calmness, Elena's handsome appearance and thoughtfulness, Victor's humor and so on. The way and image of these characters are performed so that the audience remembers them. Stage Set: Different scenes in a movie represent different stages (foreground and backstage). Different scenes and environments reflect the situation and atmosphere at different stages of the story. For example, the Casablanca bar, Rick's bar, the airport, etc., are all very important stage spaces in the movie. Plot arrangement: The p...

Extra credit— The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life——LI YULUN

Erving Goffman : 1922-1982, American sociologist, representative of symbolic interactionism and advocate of "mimetic theatre". The core concept of the book Self-Presentation in Everyday Life is "mimetic theatre", but many important concepts are also mentioned in the book, such as impression management, performer, troupe, audience, contextual definition, social agency, performance style, ritual activity, codes of decency, routines, backstage, frontstage, outsider, secrecy, operation Consistency, out-of-role communication, unintentional gestures, faults, farce, meltdowns, technique, good manners and a host of other concepts that correspond to what happens to us on a daily basis. Many of our everyday behaviours and roles are false; we do not have a true, stable self, but rather play different roles in different situations. People often believe that they have a core self within them, but this self is actually indefinable because we have to present a contextually appropr...

In the process of trying on the clothes, H suddenly asked a passing customer if the clothes looked good, the customer was confused for a while, and after a few seconds, he said the clothes looked good and left in a hurry.
